Throughout life, it is natural and normal for people to band together. Men and women form circles of friendship in school
and in society when they find that they have common interests, similar backgrounds, personal habits, social tastes, and levels
of intelligence. It was this basic human need for companionship that created fraternities and sororities.
Delta Zeta
Sorority is a self-sustaining friendship organization composed of female students in colleges and universities all over the
United States and Canada.
Membership in Delta Zeta is a privilege, and all members are expected to exemplify the finest
personal qualities.
Members of Delta Zeta have high esteem and seek high scholarship, promote cultural interests,
participate in campus activities, experience group interaction, provide service to others, cultivate friednships and continually
strive to improve themselves.
Many of the basic principles of sororities and fraternities are essentially the same,
yet each is distinct.
Each group fulfills its own purpose and serves the needs of its individual members by developing
effective programs in scholarship, campus and community service, and self-improvement.
All sorority and fraternity
functions at a college or university support the aims and purposes of that institution and are guided by the policies and
rules of their national organizations.
The fraternity system expresses the American tradition of freedom. Since the
first fraternity was founded in 1776 and the first sorority in 1870, they have grown to almost a hundred national fraternities
and sororities. They have survived adverse criticism and student indiffrence and continue to grow because the need for them
lies with the college student.
Here students learn about their own possibilities and those of their associates and
how to develop these potentials. In nothing else are the interests and need of the college student so completely met as in
fraternal association.
What are the advantages of Greek Life?
Did you know that there are many advantages to membership in a Greek organization?
Recent research done by the
Research Initiative of the National Panhellenic Conference (NPC) and the North American Interfraternity Conference (NIC) indicates
that members of Greek organizations:
- have a higher retention rate as college students
- tend to make larger gifts when donating to various causes
- are more likely to volunteer in their communities
- to be active in civic affairs
- to be civically responsible citizens during adulthood.
Employers cite the fact that they are more inclined to
hire those who have been a member of a Greek organization because of their leadership skills.
Delta Zeta Sorority
takes an active part in serving the mission of institutions of higher learning in the university communities where we have
chapters.
We foster relationships with school officials and administrators to discover how Delta Zeta and other Greek
organizations can make a postive contribution to that mission.
Through membership in Delta Zeta, you are a proud representative
of this partnership on your campus, and a viable member of the world community.
